The Assault on Outpost 1

While everyone seems lost in quiet contemplation, Kah'liss isn't.  He is
desparately trying to find a means of moving between the injuried party
members, no small chore, and doing some last minute fixing.  With the fight
immient, it would be best to have everyone in the best possible shape.  The
work it took to move from member to member left little time to think of
anything else ... so he didn't.  He could always save that for later....
BudRREEPboopboopboop sits back against the wall of the Explorer as Kurabanda
jump and swing about from cables and beams in the vehicle's cabin.  The odor
of Kurabanda feces wafts from a corner and he slumps further down, patiently
awaiting Kah'liss' medical attention.  His mind wanders.

The Federanium hull of the explorer and the incessant screeching of the
Kurabanda melt away into pastoral setting of Inner Reach's largest continent
Gurbelt, spotted with the carefully grown moss huts of the citizens and the
sounds of squealing Dralasite children as they merge by the shore of the
placid lake.  Terraforming.  That's all Bud wanted to do, was bring life to a
dead planet so that the children of the Frontier could expand into the Void
and bring civilization and the vibrancy of Sentientkind to the further
reaches of space.  At one time, Inner Reach was too a barren, rocky wasteland
far from the biosphere of the sun Dramune, until brave Dralasite explorers
colonized the dead planet in 170 p.f. and, using the Terraforming techinques
of the great scientist UUUUrp fwAAAT, brought lush flora and robust fauna to
the cold surface of the world.

Now, proudly a member of the Inner Reach Foundation for Terraformation, Bud
gladly accepted the dangerous mission to travel to the distant, newly
discovered planet of Volturnus to continue the tradition of his founding
forebears.  His decision met much resistance from his wife Blerp (Oh...it has
been so long since he has seen her...she may well be in her male stage by
now...in fact, if he goes on without his medicines, *he* may well transform
into his *female* stage...and what, if when he returns to her, they are no
longer gender-compatible?).  Bud thought of his children, Sprurt and EAPeep,
the latter still a sprout when he left Inner reach for this infernal
wasteland, the former but a season away from its first gender stage.

Now he was here -- how long had it been?  Bud could not be sure, for he had
lost all track of time.  Perhaps weeks?  Perhaps months...he could not tell.
As far as his monochrome vision could determine, his vibrant orange membrane
dye had faded to a pale ochre, and he was rescued from the clutches of
sadistic pirates by a tribe of savage primates, and now was back in the
company of even more savage Sentients.  Had he gone from the crucible into
the heliostat?  The danger was far from over and he would have to watch his
pseudoposterior from his own party as well as the pirates from whom they were
attempting to rescue the enslaved.  Carefully, his optical nerve clusters
focused on each member of the party:

Kah'liss.  Busy as a bee, carefully tending the wounded.  Bud respected him,
and couldn't help but chuckle slightly at his funny shape.  He looked SO
comical with those sungoggles perched atop his head, too.  Bud laughed to
himself.  Of all the group, Bud liked Kah'liss the most.  If Kah'liss
tolerated the others, maybe they weren't as dangerous as he initially
thought.   Nevertheless...

LStaric.  The only thing funnier than one Vrusk is *two* Vrusk, and that made
it doubly as funny.  The way they moved, like drone workers in a hive,
focusing on their tasks to the near exclusion of all else...it was enough to
make a Dralasite burst with laughter, spewing proteid fluid everywhere.  Bud
strained to hold it in, though, lest he attract the attention of the
Yazirian. . .

He did not know what they called the Yazirian, and did not care to know.  Bud
read all to well the way the simian glared at him through his dark goggles,
though he could never see his eyes.  There was something ominous in the
mystery behind those dark lenses.  The Yazirian had a way of curling his lips
back to reveal his razor fangs that made Bud's membrane crawl.  And the way
he seemed to relish using his knife on the helpless humans they had captured
confounded Bud.  All Bud wanted was to bring life to a dead planet, yet this
one seemed intent to destroy life, and rationalize his violence with petty
issues.  Life was too valuable to harm it when other alternatives existed,
and he considered the Yazirian a dangerous liability.
The humans Brenon and Raleigh seemed friendly enough.  The third human he
knew nothing about...not even his name.  Humans were generally easy to work
with, but Bud could only wonder what part they played in the grisly scene
that took place in the tree shelters while he was building the funeral pyre.
Bud hoped that the Yazirian was responsible for all that carnage -- Yazirians
were certainly capable of it...but humans tended to be far too unpredictable,
and although Bud usually found that trait funny, the very thought that they
may have played a role in the senseless mutulation of their prisoners worried
him.  He no longer felt like laughing.  He thought of his wife, and his
children, and hoped he would make it out of here alive...
Thankful for peace and quiet finally, Raleigh spends the next few minutes after their arrival helping Zhirrzh with concealing the Explorer as best possible. Once done, he grabs his magnigoggles and heads in the direction of the facility.
Raleigh will get as close as he dares, assuming natural cover still abounds, and will go prone in an area of cover. Peering through the magnigoggles at the facility, he will await further instructions from there.
Zhirrzh quickly exits the Explorer, finding the Kurabanda stench to be too much for his sensitive nose. Immediately he begins concealing the Explorer as best he can with the nearby foliage, giving Raleigh a rare grin as he directs the techie with a few suggestions. Satisfied with their handiwork, Zhirrzh joins the rest of the team as the lay low and scout the area. Taking the signal from Brenon, Zhirrzh slips into the night, blending with the shadows as he moves in for a closer look.
The Explorer comes near a large lake - the moonlight does not reveal much about the large body of water, however. As
the Explorer zooms past, Kah'liss makes a note to investigate it to add to the team's environmental studies. Once reaching the lake, he turns southward and makes a large arc to go around the body of water.
The vehicle also reaches a large dry canal. Inspection from the inside of the Explorer and the darkness outsides reveals little, but it seems to extend southward as far as you can see. It is about 5 kilometers wide at its largest width. Raleigh
rides perhaps 1/2 a kilometer before finding a slope whose gradient is low
enough to prevent the Explorer from tumbling over itself. The crossing is
without effect. The Kurabanda stop their childlike scammering at this point and
begin looking outside very warily. No Kurabanda from their tribe has ever
crossed the canal. Some show signs of nervous anxiety; Kurabanda are definately
not comfortable in their native environment.

OOC
To answer Zhirrzh's questions -

The outpost is in the desert, on the opposite side of the canal. BudReeep and
LStaric even suggest hiding the Explorer here. Perhaps 1000 meters to the East
of the Canal is the outpost, standing like a beacon in the open. A few rocks and
small hills provide adequate enough cover for your approach, but at 200 meters,
it is pretty much open terrain to the outpost.

The Outpost is a group of cheap modular construction units put together to form
a single structure. The outpost is surrounded by a high fence (12 meters) and
topped with razor wire. There is one gate, located in the Northeast corner. It
is wide enough to allow large vehicles through.
There is a second building under contruction, which currently consists of medal
struts holding a temporary roof. Construction materials and machinery lie about.
This must be the new export dock they are building. A large concrete platform is
build on the ground at this area - this probably served as a landing pad for the
jetcopter, or could be the future landing site of a spacebound freighter.

To answer more specific questions:

1. What were we able to find out regarding the security fence and the lock? Did
Amar know the access codes?   Amar tells you that the lock on the fence is a
contact recognition lock. Not all of the pirates even have access - only 4 do.
Amar claims he doesn't have access, neither did Crat. If you are outside without
one of the 4, there is an intercom unit on the control box at the gate - someone
in the computer room can allow access.

2. How long does Amar think it would take them to bring in re-enforcement's, and
how much time has passed since the pirate got away? It is about midnight right
now - the fight took place about 6 hours ago. The main Pirate Base is about 500
kilometers to the North east. The Jetcopter was the primary mode of
transportation between the two sites. It being shot down a few weeks ago,
they've been restricted to using Explorers to ferry supplies down here. It was
then that manpower at the outpost was doubled. Prior to the crash of the
Jetcopter, this was pretty much a research outpost with a crew of 10 and a
handful of prisoners. Amar is sure they've ordered a new jetcopter, but that's
all handled at the main base and he doesn't know when it will arrive.
Communication to the base is done by short-wave Radiophone.

3. Are there spotlights or "streetlights" lighting the compound?
Currently there are no lights around the compound. However, the clear desert
sky and the 1st moon up, the evening is pretty bright and you can see the
sihlouette of the outpost clearly. There are a few windows in the compound, but
they are of the white plastic variety; you can not see inside. These windows are
along the west wall. Lights are on inside but you can make out no other detail.

IC
4. Is there any noticeable activity inside the compound?
The compound is quiet....wait a minute, there is movement, over there. Yes, at
the west door, a robot exits. When the door shuts behind it, the robot begins an
exterior patrol of the outpost. Heading south first, it dissapears from your
view as it patrols the area outside the building. A minute and a half later, it
appears again on the north side, coming around in a complete circle and entering
the same door, vanishing inside as the doors lock behind it. Raleigh raises his
goggles and tries to identify the robot.

Waiting to get the robot's cycle time is about 10 minutes. Every 10 minutes,
it appears at the door and performs its exterior patrol.

5. Can Zhirrzh hear anything coming from inside the compound?
 No sound.

ADDITIONAL INFO
Your scoping of the base reveals the following cameras (I will mark this on
your map as well)
There is a swivel camera mounted above the garage doors. It continually
rotates and provides a full 180 degree view of the gates and area around it.
Other cameras are marked on the map (or will be when I get home)

Now is the time we need to hunker down with details. I need to the following:

1) What your plan is, and who, if anyone, remains.
2) What do you do with Amar?
3) What do you tell the Kurabanda to do?

Some side notes -
Raleigh, Telgar, and LStaric all have Level 1 Securities - Open Locks and
other security skills. If anyone wants to spend their new XP on these skills,
you may do so. This goes against what I said before - about having a reason for
advancing in your skillsets...you obviously haven't been springing locks since
you arrived. However, we'll just assume you came planetside with these skills
intact - as I'll tell you now the locks are higher than level 1 locks. See, I'm
not entirely evil.  (rubbing hands together with evil smirk)

Zhirrzh's holo screen, being a screen, can be used by any player.

There is a decent sized rock and a few sloping hills about 200 meters from the
outpost. This is where you can call home while you plan. And you can reach this
area unobserved. You are approaching from the West. The gate is on  the
Northeast corner.

LStaric, when listening to the handout of gear, frowns when Brenon
offers the Crete Sprayer. "What should I have use of this?" the Vrusk
asks. "I have both experience in Beam and PGS weapons. SHould I not be
more useful with one of these? I can understand the use of crete when
constructing shelter, but hardly see what I would use it for the
     upcoming engagement."
Zhirrzh feels a sudden burst of rage as this khesting Vrusk questioned Brenon's orders. With the hackles on his neck rising, the angry Yazirian moves quickly to within half a meter of the Vrusk. He gives his wrist a quick flick and feels his knife slide comfortably into the palm of his hand. He brings the knife up, level with the Vrusk's throat, the point dangerously close.
"You'll do as ordered, and without question," Zhirrzh threatened. "You're only here because we allow it. Don't forget that."  Zhirrzh glares into the bug's eyes, his hand and knife steady and poised for action.
LStaric blinks, surprised, at the Yazirian's angry response. Stunned, he glances at the other members of the team before returning the Yazirian's gaze and answering. "Excuse me please, I was only offering suggestion...I had no idea this was such...a totalitarian rule with this rescue team..."  With that, he lowers his head and retreats a few meters. "I will carry whatever you offer."

Zhirrzh returns to the hiding place of the rest of the team. The robot had surprised Zhirrzh, as Amar hadn't mentioned them. However, they hadn't asked. Zhirrzh decided to remedy that.
"Amar, the robot was a not so nice surprise. Is there anything else you should tell us about the security arrangements? Such as how many robots are in there, and who and how many watch the cameras?"
Zhirrzh flicks his wrist, popping his knife into his hand, reminding Amar of the penalty if he didn't answer.
Amar eyes the knife warily and shrugs. "There are two robots inside. One of
them is usually on a patrol. The other one, it's usually inside somewhere. I
can't tell you where it's at - I don't know.. They're armed with laser rifles,
that's all I know about 'em. I don't deal with 'em....The camera monitors are in
the Computer Room - there's usually one guy in there...not a security guard or
anything - that's just where all computer work is done, and that's where the
monitors are.."
Zhirrzh nods, satisfied with the answer. He slides his knife back into its mount and gives Amar a toothy grin.
"I don't know much about robots, but I'm sure they have to be programmed to recognize who to shoot, and who to let pass. So, how would it recognize you for instance?"
"It looks for a Star Devil sign - tattoos mostly because most of the      guys are shirtless or wear explorer vests. If wearing shirts, then a badge with the Star Devil emblem...but someone usually rolls up a sleeve when we get on base," Amar answers.
When Zhirrzh got back from his scouting and had a few choice words with Amar,Brenon pulled him and Raliegh aside, but not so far that they were out of ears reach from the rest of the crew; he wanted them to hear everything as well.
"Well?" Brenon said. Zhirrzh quickly relayed what he'd seen. Brenon had hoped there wouldn't be a fence. But none-the-lucky. He a Raliegh listened to Zhirrzh's idea on getting into the complex and Brenon nodded in agreement. He was damn glad that Zhirrzh had come along; Brenon's mind had been taxed throughout the days and he was having difficulties cultivating ideas. Brenon was thankful for having such a good crew.
"Then that's what we'll do... We'll wait for the Robot to make it's rounds. Zhirrzh, as you know you'll take out the camera...Hell, if you have too just shoot the damn thing; either way it's out and they'll send someone out it to check on it...whether it's mudballs or fried equipment I think they'll figure out what's going on. After that we'll send the crew with picking abilities to try to access the gate, once the gate is open we'll take Amar; bound and gagged, though a least obvious as possible and try to access the compound via their garage. Once in we'll secure ourselves and wait for the Robot to pass again. I'll go outside and place a TD-19/Pressure device outside the door the Robot goes through so on his return trip he get's waxed, hopefully we'll have enough time to position ourselves inside the compound. I want LStayric to Crete the doors to the Living Quarters. Raliegh, I want  you to take charge of the Kurabandai, and BudReep, see what you can do about keeping them Quiet. Amar will move with Lstayric, those two being the lead as they move through the hallways around hte complex and secure the other door to the Living Quarters, Amar will be there only to show his tattoo to Mr. Droid. After the doors are secured the rest of us will free the prisoners, then move from room to room exterminating the pirates."
"If we're detected at the gate, here's PLAN B. We park the the explorer just south of the complex. Just out of accurate camera view, we then wait for the robot to come out; as he's making his rounds Raliegh will put the pedal to the floorboard and go full steam into the fence and run over the Robot, leaving us at the back door. We'll break it down or blow it up with TD-19 and storm the complex. We'll enter the complex in triplets as much as possible, two Karabandai to every one of ours......"
"Kah'liss, leave your med supplies in the explorer. I want that gun arm in this one."
    "Telgar, same as always.....Ground Pound."
"S#*t!!!" Raleigh cursed to himself, not allowing the others to see the frustration in his eyes. Now, not only was he babysitting, but he was babysitting a pack of damn Kurabundai. Oh well, comes with the territory. Raleigh's feelings on the plan were that even the best laid plans never go without a hitch and he felt that the opportunity to run down a combat droid with the explorer would be fun.
Nodding his understanding to Brennon, Raleigh climbed into the cab on the Explorer, preferably with Bud in the passenger seat and the K in the back.
Kahliss sits and waits, weapons and equipment at the ready.  He may
never have been a combat person before, but by the time this was done, he
would have more experience than most of the planetary militias did.
BudRREEPboopboopboop nods to Brennon and Raleigh in agreement with the plan,
and takes his seat in the passenger compartment.  He turns to the alpha Kurabanda and asks him deferentially to issue the order to the other Kurabanda to keep silent while the others "stalk their prey in the hunt."
Zhirrzh nodded. He stood patiently as final preparations were made, then took off into the night. Angling around the base, the Yazirian finally finds himself a couple of dozen meters away from the fence in front of the garage. He takes a moment to glance around and make sure the rest of the team is in position. Satisfied, he watches and waits for the robot to finish its round, then activates his camo screen and speeds toward the fence.
At two meters from the fence, Zhirrzh comes to a stop. Unslinging his needler, he focuses in on the camera attached to the garage. He would have preferred to use his gryojet and destroy the entire camera, but he knew it would make too much noise. The relatively quiet needler was his best choice. Taking several seconds to make sure his aim was true, Zhirrzh pulled the trigger.
As they attempt to pick the lock Brenon will get Telgar and himself to climb atop the explorer in the prone with their guns trained on the large doors just beyond the fence. Brenon  also brings a frag grenade and set it down beside him.
Zhirrzh waits until the robot finishes its outside patrol. As soon
as it enters the building, the Yazirian activates his holo screen.
Dashing to the gate, he kneels and aims through the electrified link
fence, targeting the rotating camera above the large garage doors. He
raises the Needler Rifle, now loaded with standard Needlers, takes
     careful aim, and fires.

Raleigh guns the explorer when Zhirrzh's confirmation comes over
their chronos. They were on a very tight schedule now - not only would
the disabled camera be noticed soon, but that robot was due in a few
     minutes...
Shoving a small cloud of dust into the air, the Explorer slides to a
skidding halt at the gate. Reaching behind the seat, Raleigh grabs his
Techkit and launches out of the Explorer.
Coming to rest next to Zhirrzh, Raleigh examines the panel as his
hands blindly reach for the correct tools. "Damn this stuff," he muses
as he racks his brain for the internal workings of such a recognition
lock. "I hate these things," he confesses again as he brings a
electrodriver up to the plating. Prying the main plate open, he looks
at the nest of circuitry and wiring inside. Squinting in thought, he
begins again - I may can do two things. If I can defeat the lock, I can
open the gate. But it looks like the fence is an easier out -- it seems a
simple bypass would deactivate it.
Without waiting on response, knowing time was short, Raleigh began...

Brenon checks the watch on his chrono again. "Come on, Raleigh, hurry!"
he mumbles to himself as he and Telgar watch from the roof of the Explorer.
4 minutes until that robot came back out from the back door. Perhaps another
half minute before it rounded and could view the team.
The seconds passed, then minutes. Telgar and Brenon continually exchanged
glances. "Raleigh," Brenon whispered into the chrono. "45 seconds." Not like
the robot would give a serious challenge to the team as heavily armed as
they were, but it would no doubt transmit an alarm if a firefight erupted.
Hell, the noise itself would probably wake every pirate inside.
"Open!" Raleigh sighs as an audible -clink- comes from the gate. Raleigh
pulls it open with a grin as Kah'liss, who had taken over the driver's seat
of the Explorer, prepares to pull inside the compound.
Kahliss drops all but a small med-kit, which he attaches to his back.
One never knows when one needs just a little help.  He then readies his
rifle and climbs aboard.  He waits patiently for the assault to begin.  When
Raliegh has to exit, he slides over and takes his place.  This was going to
be interesting....
Brenon speaks to Zhirrzh, it's a rushed one sided conversation, "Zhirrzh, quickly, take the crete sprayer from Lstayric here and turn on your holo screen. WHen the bot comes out spray 'em down but avoid the security plate." As Zhirrzh sets to motion Brenon turns to Raliegh, "When the bot's down, turn him off ASAP..."
Zhirrzh nodded his response as he slung his rifle and turned to the new Vrusk, his arm extended for the crete sprayer. Taking the sprayer, Zhirrzh jogged to the corner the robot was supposed to come around. He threw a look over his shoulder to make sure Raleigh was prepared, and re-activated his camo screen. Stepping out around the corner, Zhirrzh positioned himself to put the robot between him and the wall when it passed. A couple of deep breathes later, the Yazirian was still as stone as he waited.
Raleigh sprinted at breakneck speed to get to the corner before the robot. He had always been impressed with the Yazirians quickness, now he had the opportinuty to see his speed first hand as well. Reaching the corner of the building, Raleigh quickly fished through his kits to locate the appropriate tools with which to deactivate the robot. Waiting was always the hardest part.
Telgar stays alert to the surroundings, constantly scanning for anything the group may need to be aware of. As Raleigh and Zhirrzh take off to say hello to the robot, Telgar checks his equipment one last time before the impending assault.
Standing opposite the corner, with a view of both the western and
southern walls, Zhirrzh waits with the Crete sprayer. Knowing the Holo
Screen was on, he still felt completely exposed. He's never tested it
at this close a range. That robot was going to pass right by him.
Hopefully the ruse would work. He glanced to his left, saw Raleigh
pressed against the wall, ready to assault the robot and deactivate.
In 30 seconds, the robot rounded the corner. As it made the long
Eastward march toward Zhirrzh, the Yazirian instinctly tightened his
grip on the Crete sprayer. If only this thing had a range of more than
two feet! The robot approached, laser rifle in hand, head continually
