Raleigh stood quietly on the bank of the oasis, casually watching the flight patterns of some of the larger insects that were frequenting the area. Shifting his Wartech rifle to the other arm for support, he lazily kicked at some sand. As if in answer, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. The sand was moving...Worms!
  Raleighs eyes grew wide as he watched what could only be another worm head in his direction. He felt his stomach tighten into a knot as he remembered what had happened to Lyrium and Rolgar. Then again, he thought as he watched the creature race towards him, this was different. This creature seemed to jump like a fish through the sand, not burrow like the worm.
  Suddenly it dawned on him that he was in mortal danger, and the more he analyzed the creature, the closer it got. 'Not on my shift' he spit under his breath as he brought the rifle up to firing position and aimed. "Eat This You Bastard!!!" he screamed at the top of his lungs while jerking angrily on the trigger.
   Kah'liss was taking a mid-day nap, though his thoughts were still riled by the malfunctions of the self-repair unit.  He knew Streel should have bought a Surgi-tech unit.  He should have pushed for nothing less than all Surgi-tech units ... but instead, he had let them buy the more prone to fault Medi-Cal units.
    The screams and shouts awaken him immediately.  Odd that he was always asleep when danger struck.  He was faster this time, never undressed or without weapon.  In seconds he emerged from the shade and was rushing to the
source of the danger.  The weapons snapped into his hands with the practice he had been doing.  He was /not/ going to let anyone else die this time, especially himself.
    The closer he got, the more cautious his steps became ... He removed one gun and brought it to aim...
    Telgar, senses Kah'Liss's movement and, not wanting to risk more injuries, Telgar yells, "Kah'Liss!  Keep your distance and get some high ground... I don't want this shark deviating from it's current course!"  He returns his full attention to the inbound shark, hoping Kah'Liss would not question his request and wondering if the others had picked up on his intentions for the prey.
        Brenon, asleep on his bedroll is brought to life by the rumblings of gunfire. He immediately rolls out of his bedding, weapon aimed.(Brenon would be carrying a beam rifle set at a medium setting, say 5 SEU). In the short distance he can see Raliegh firing into the ground... then a shark lept from the sand and dove back in again... the term 'shark' rolled around in Brenon's head for a moment. 'You've gotta be f*cking kidding me....sharks? Am I dreaming?', But Brenon wouldn't take that chance, he'd hoped he was dreaming but couldn't leave it to happenstance that he wasn't.
    Brenon shouts, hoping Kay'liss would hear him. "Kay'liss, bring about the explorer!" Brenon then rushed to the palm nearest Raliegh to use as both cover and a place to fire his weapon.

 Fortunately for Raleigh, that is only a WOUND, not a DEEP CUT as was Telgar's injury. To heal a wound,all Stamina points of damage caused by the attacking weapon must be healed, and 1d10+1 hours of game time must pass until penalties caused by the wounds are nullified.

    Raleigh grinds his teeth together as the second shark leaps up, grabbing a painful mouthfull of his right arm. As spears of pain shoot up his arm, he quickly pushes free, letting his rifle drop to the ground. Thank god for the Inertia Suit, he muses quickly to himself, although already realizing his bloody arm is presently useless. In rage, he pulls the Auto pistol from his side. He knew there was a reason he took that along with the rifle on this watch...

    The Sand spits up a shower of sand as Raleigh fires of 10 shots from the pistol. To his surprise, he doesn't see any make their mark.
    Zhirrzh jumps up from where he is resetting a snare and bounds in the direction of Raleigh's gunfire. Drawing his auto-pistol, he begins firing careful bursts as soon as he sees the shark. Closing in on Raleigh's location, he sees his opportunity perhaps 15 meters away, when the sharks pull back and circle again, preparing for their next assault.

    Upon hearing the rifle fire, Telgar sets his pistols to maximum SEU and gets on ground level in the direct path of the "shark".  He kneels down and aims both pistols constantly at the shark's head, waiting for the right opportunity. Perhaps 20 meters away, Telgar fires his pistols..

    With the two blasts from Brenon's rifle, the remaining shark crashes with a thud to the sand. Kah'liss, who was just about to pull the trigger on his own rifle, lowers the gun and immediately grabs his medkit. With his medical eye, and seeing Raleigh drop to his knee grab his arm, he knew that his skills were needed immediately...
    "Yes," Kah'liss clicks as his diagnosis of Raleigh's arm is complete. "It took a nice bite to you. Will need surgery, and then you will need perhaps half a day before it will feel normal again."

    Kah'liss shows what can only be a frown and brings the Med-Tronic unit closer for further investigation. Blast it, there's got to be something wrong. After spending a few minutes tinkering and fine tuning the equipment, he decides to commence with Wounds III treatment. This will lay Raleigh up for 10 hours, but he figures that much rest is needed for the arm anyway...

Raleigh learned more about a Plasti-Flesh Neuro Administrator than he ever thought he'd learn that day, which was nice to know, but damn did his arm hurt.
    Kah'liss tests the sandshark's meat and gives the approval for consumption. If you desire, you can cook them and enjoy some nice, thick shark steaks. The best meal you've had on this side of Truane's Star....
