IC
Payne nods in agreement. "I think we have ourselves
a plan here. If you wish, I can set the charge for the explorer as
well. I want to have plenty of BOOM for the communications building, because
we can take out some of that main building with the blast. What type of
explosion do you want for the explorer?"
Telgar will still opt to use his plan after the
initial trojan phase is completed. He believes that his mission hasn't
changed with the new approach so his plan shouldn't vary much either.
An idea suddenly came to Brenon........
"Oh guys....it's halftime and we've got the ball....here's
the plan.... First....we're gonna rig one of the explorers with enough
explosives to make the Yazirian Indepence day look like a birthday cake...
we'll line the top of the explorer with as many mini bombs(pipe bombs)
as we can muster. Next, we'll drug our Pirate friend and strap him into
the drivers seat. Then we'll have one of our mechanically inclined friends(to
this Brenon looked at Raliegh) rig the explorer so that when it stops the
horn goes off....and stays on. We'll also detach the hood release mechanism
that allows the hood to open...disallowing them access to turn the horn
off...this will create the distraction we need. We'll also rig the explorer
so that no one can get in it. Sleepy Pirates will come a flockin trying
to shut this horn up......once a sufficient number of the pirates have
entered what we'll term the "blast radius", we'll radio detonate a small
charge that is the "fuse" for all the other charges. Everyone within the
blast radius will be killed....the larger explosion will hurl the smaller
bombs to various locations within the base perimeter......their fuses will
finish shortly after that creating seemingly random explosions throughout
the base. At this point....our teams will storm the base taking on their
respective missions...."
"Raliegh....see what you can do to prep the explorer
for it's final mission and see if you can crank up the volume of that horn...I
want it to be real annoying. Also see what you can do to loosen her up,
what I mean by that is, loosen up some things...doors, wheels, etc....
anything that could potentially serve as flying object once the explorer
explodes....."
"Kah'liss....see what you can do to drug the pirate...."
"Payne....I'll need your help in rigging the explosives
an creating a few...see if we can 'borrow' some Oil off the Edestekai for
this purpose, scavange for as much flammables as you can."
"Bud Reep and Telgar, see what you can do to fortify
the other explorer....I'm envisioning using the crete sprayers to create
a barrier on top"
"The rest of you can help the others......"
"Any questions?"
BudRREEEPboopboopboop listens to the plan intently
as he fidgets with his polyvox in his pseudopods. He straps the polyvox
around the stalk of his pseudopate and nods in agreement. In a piping
whistle, he offers, "EEEr Bubup?" His polyvox softly translates in
a female voice, "A sound plan it seems, indeed. One wonders, however,
if we could rig the explorer with smoke grenades, rather than explosives?"
Brenon makes an additional request of Raliegh, "Also,
see what you can do with our explorer in 'fortifying it....Crete the tops
with mini walls that will act as cover. But also see what you can salvage
from the other explorer in terms of pipes etc... that might serve as spears
around the explorer....I want to have a speared picket around the Explorer,
this will serve both a defensive and offensive purpose. Whoever's driving
can have a field day playing "tag you're it"... ;-)
Brenon listens to the various questions from the
others concerning the Edestekai and speaks up....
"Here's what we'll do. We'll dress our boys
up as best we can to look like Edestekai. We'll prep the Edestekai with
pales of water and their pitch forks, spears, etc... when the explosion
occurs...it will seem natural that the Edestekai come to the aid of their
"Gods" and want to help them put out the fires. So...all 100 Edestekai;
excuse me all 104 Edestekai <Brenon winks at the group> will come to
the aid of the pirates...seeminly. Zhirrzh, Telgar, Payne and myself will
hide amongst the Edestekai. Once we've established a foot hold in the base
we'll launch our attacks..... BudReep, Raliegh & Kah'liss, will keep
the explorer back until I give the signal(that signal will be when we're
either uncovered or have all the Edestekai in the base). Your role will
be a support role, if things get too think for a team, they are to radio
in to you for support where you'll then plow through an area, lobbing grenades
and running over enemy personnel at your own discretion. Your designation
will be "Wild Card", you'll also carry additional weapons and medical supplies,
using those when requested. Telgar and Payne's teams; Designation "Team
Alpha1,Alpha2", will consist of Edestekai(55 Edestekai)and you are to destroy
the communications facilities then focus on the barracks in the S.E. Quadrant.
Zhirrzh will command a small group of 5 Edestekai; Designation "Black Knight"....their
purpose will be to clean up Zhirrzh's mess. Zhirrzh will take a high position
within the base facilities, probably atop a building...whatever is the
high spot...his job will be to take out the bot guards with a GyroJet...and
once that's done he'll play sniper and pick people off with the Sleep Needler...once
those bastards are asleep the Edestekai are to move in the finish the job.
My Group will consist of 40 Edestekai; designation "Team Bravo", I will
first wipe out the barracks in the North West Quadrant, the focus on freeing
the prisoners and arming them with weapons from our Explorer. We'll then
move South and hit the South West Quadrant Barracks. IT's a green light
people, let's get to work...."
Raliegh will do the following:
1) Weaken key points to make more fragments when it explodes.
2) He will rig the horn to go off upon impact.
3) He will remove the hood release from inside so they can't turn the
horn
off.
Payne and I will do the following:
1) Rig the inside of the explorer with a bunch of explosives in key
points. Lots of explosives under the hood and under the vehicle. We'll
use'almost' all the TD-19 to for this one.
But we'll reserve a small amount in case a door/safe
needs to be blown.
We will disguise the bombs inside the vehicle in case
they are able to
gain access. We'll also create a BUNCH of smaller pipe/jar type bombs
made up of
oil/td-19 that will scatter once the doomed explorer explodes. The
main explosion
will send tiny bombs throughout the complex where they'll explode at
random.
The catalyst to this whole thing will be myself,
I'll be sitting off in the distance with
a pair of goggles watching as the annoyed Pirates
come to see what disturbed their
slumber and what they can do to shut the damned noise
off. Once a sufficient number
of pirates have gathered around the explorer and in the
immediate area I'll give Payne
the order to blow her, or if I feel our trump card has
been found out I'll again give Payne
order to blow her. Payne will be holding the radio detonator.
Once she has blown and the smaller explosions seem to be settling the Edestekai
will come to the pirates rescue.....
The delivery:
Again, we'll strap the "asleep" pirate into the
vehicle and make it appear as though he
were attacked by a wild animal. Next we'll have Zhirrzh Cloak himself
and actually drive the vehicle
the distance just within 20 meters of the fence line before he jumps
from the vehicle. He'll have to
shut the door as well before he jumps. Zhirrzh will remain hidden in
the sand until the Edestekai come,
where he will then rise up and walk among them.
Payne works on his preperations, and will be ready
when the unit
moves out.
The plan was made, everyone knew their task. Raleigh begins the task
of
welding, pulling apart, and otherwise preparing both Explorers for
the task
to come, pulling Telgar to his aide a few times. Payne and Brenon prepare
the explosives. Zhirrzh begins work with the crete, adding extra layers
of
protection on the assaulting Explorer (door areas primarily). Kah'liss
and
BudReep, with deep reservation, sedate the prisoner and prepare him
for his
soon to be destruction. BudReep's pores exude a foul odor, expressing
his
distaste for the barbaric act that is about to occur. But he did understand
the plan, and since the prisoner would eventually face a certain painful
execution in the hands of the Edestekai, BudReep realized at least
this way
his death will be painless.
Brenon and Payne repeat the battle plan with the Edestekai...At
the
Explosion, they will advance. 100 yards to go before they reach the
compound. The Explosion will certainly disorient the human Pirates,
but the
concern was for the Robots in the tower gates. Depending on their
programming, or the quick response of a computer-operator who can change
their mission quickly from a central room, the robots could potentially
open
fire immediately. But it was a risk that had to be taken - this early
in the
morning, everyone would probably be asleep, or at least unsuspecting.
Finally, everything is done. Brenon repeats once more, to ingrain
the
plan. "Again, we'll strap the "asleep" pirate into the vehicle and
make it
appear as though he were attacked by a wild animal. Next we'll have
Zhirrzh
Cloak himself and actually drive the vehicle the distance just within
20
meters of the fence line before he jumps from the vehicle."
The Yazirian nods. Brenon continues. "He'll have to shut the
door as well
before he jumps. Zhirrzh will remain hidden in the sand until the Edestekai
come, where he will then rise up and walk among them...Raleigh, everything
ready?"
The Technician climbs from underneath the rigged Explorer. "You
bet," he
says. "That horn will probably be a bit louder, but it can only be
so loud
to begin with. But I did jam the lock, so the hood won't open...Made
some of
the joints a bit weaker too, but you've got enough kaboomite in there,
it
probably won't make a difference." Raleigh gestures to the team's explorer.
"Now, this one's ready to go!" He grins. The once beautiful Explorer
has
been rigged and fitted, to where it looked almost silly. Two small
(~3 feet)
poles are welded near each of the headlights, jutting out like two
thin
horns. Two thicker poles have been welded to the sides, also about
3 feet in
length, sticking out like anemic wings. "You don't want to be standing
next
to this thing when I drive by," Raleigh grins. "Just line 'em up and
I'll
knock em all over. Better hope they can duck, for their sake..."
The team regards the Explorer, the side windows caked over with
crete, the
hard concrete protection. "I do intend to replace this with one of
the
Pirate's vehicles inside," Raleigh concludes. "But you have to do what
you
have to do..."
4:30am. Getting late. They had to move now while there was still
cover of
darkness. The team hadn't slept in over a day, but the adrenaline was
flowing too much to matter now. It was time.
Zhirrzh climbs into the rigged Explorer, gives the thumbs up,
activates
the Holo Screen. Everyone double checks their weapons, makes sure their
powerpacks are ready to go, their clips secure...
The Explorer peels off, Zhirrzh taking the long way around to
reach the
base, where he will come in from the south, the direction of the original
outpost. Surely the buzz in the camp is big about their whereabouts.
As luck
had it, they had reported radio problems, and that could explain the
silence...But not forever. This explorer approaching this early in
the
morning would make sense, if something was wrong. Hopefully, enough
curious
rumor-seekers will crowd around to get the story from the silent outpost.
As
the old adage goes, 'curiosity killed the cat'...
Needless to say, it's very tricky driving an Explorer with an
unconscious
prisoner sitting in the driver seat. But Zhirrzh pulls it off. Driving
up,
approaching the gate, he knows the Robots in the guard towers are trained
on
this new visitor. But with the Star Devil banner off of the antenna,
he knew
he was safe. But would they report this immediately?
20 yards, Zhirrzh steps off the accelerator, climbs to the passenger
seat,
opens the door, and jumps out, making sure to slam the door back shut.
He
rolls out of the way, lays motionless, watching the Explorer make its
way to
the gate. Zhirrzh begins to crawl away, giving himself distance from
the
explosion. 20 yards probably wouldn't cut it.
Contact. The Explorer hits the gate softly. Sparks fly
as the electified
fence is activated. Then the horn goes off. The loud, annoying wail
of the
horn. Sparks continue to spray from the jeep for a few moments, when
either
the robots or some automatic device disables the electricity at the
gate.
It doesn't take long. Someone comes out of BUILDING 26,
laser rifle in
hand. A scruff looking man, he wipes at sleep in his eyes, glances
around,
trying to define the situation. He glances to the robot towers, then
looks
to the annoying sound of the horn. He trots up to the fence, yells
something
to the 'driver', looks around again, unsure. Within moments, two other
Pirates come running, this time from behind BUILDING 9. They job briskly,
one carrying a laser pistol, the other a gyrojet rifle. They round
the
corner of BUILDING 10 and begin yelling at the first pirate. A brief
conversation ensues, but Zhirrzh can not make out anything over the
loud
noise of the horn.
After another round of quick conversation, the Pirate with the
gyrojet
rifle darts towards BUILDING 15. The two remaining Pirates continue
to yell
at the sedated driver, trying to wake him up, get his attention, something.
Often they glance to the guard towers, or do a quick scan of the area
outside the gate. Something wasn't right.
Before the gyrojet rifle weilding Pirate reaches BUILDING 15,
a fourth
Pirate emerges from the building, sluggish and awkwardly dressing into
a
skeinsuit. Obviously an officer. He straps a belt to his waist, demanding
what the racket is. A gyrojet pistol is holstered onto the belt. After
brief
discussion, the two rush back to the main gate. The officer (named
Blackie
O'Dell for description's sake) spends a moment at the control panel.
The
other Pirates ready their weapons, just in case. The gate opens and
the
pirates step outside.
Brenon, watching from the hillside with goggles, sees another
Pirate
emerge from BUILDING 15 and rush quickly to the gate. Five Pirates
so far,
all huddled around the Explorer. They try to get inside the door, find
it
locked. Banging on the window to get the driver's attention, Zhirrzh
can see
slight movement from within. Kah'liss did a fine job of sedating the
prisoner. While he was incoherent, he was able to acknowledge the fact
of
the loud environment around him. His head nodded back and forth slowly.
The
Pirates outside the vehicle thought he was either in extreme pain,
just too
sleepy, or....drugged. Blackie O'Dell looks around, scans the plain
before
him...He then rushes to the other side of the Explorer, all doors locked...
Two more Pirates begin to arrive, showing themselves from
the far side of
BUILDING 8, the prisoner compound. They too will arrive at the gate
in a few
moments.........
Zhirrzh lay quietly, belly-down in the sand at a distance he thought
to
be safe. He was positive that combined with his holo-screen, his low
position, and the poor night vision of humans that he wouldn't be seen.
So
far, the night-time intrusion had drawn five pirates. A possibility
existed
that at least one of them was an officer. The one thing that worried
him
though, was how often the pirates, especially the officer, kept glancing
out
over the barren terrain.
A small knot of dread was forming in the pit of
Zhirrzh's stomach. From
where he lay, it looked like the officer was going to figure out what
was
going on and rush the rest of the pirates away from the Explorer. But,
Zhirrzh reasoned, the reason it looked that way could be because of
Zhirrzh's own knowledge. Sometimes he knew he allowed his fears and
emotions
to influence how he interpreted what he saw. With that in mind, he
was able
to grab hold of that knot of apprehension and at least keep it from
growing.
But he still couldn't shake the feeling that the pirate officer was
going to
figure it out too soon.
Reason battled with instinct as he was torn between
staying quiet, and
yelling for Brenon to go ahead and blow the Explorer. So far, reason
had the
upper hand, but he didn't know how much longer he could keep that knot
of
dread from growing.
Brenon watched on in amuzement. They (the pirates)
were falling for it. If just some more would come out to investigate....
Brenon decides to wait just a little longer. Raleigh,
sitting behind the
hill in the Explorer, listens on the chrono for the signal. Not that
he'll
need to hear Brenon's word - the explosion should suffice. Behind the
hill,
he could see nothing, heard the horn, knew there must be commotion
on the
other side of that hill. The not knowing was killing him...
Brenon watched the group around the Explorer grow more agitated
at the
annoying horn. Realizing the driver was too out of it to open the door,
one
Pirate makes his way to the passenger side. Raising his laser pistol,
he
fires two shots at the locked door. He then flings the door open and
steps
into the vehicle. Another Pirate, a Dralasite, comes around as well,
resting
on the open door, looking inside the vehicle.
'Now, damnit,' Zhirrzh thinks to himself. A few of the Pirates
have
huddled around the explorer, waiting on the hood to be popped so they
can
turn that blasted horn off. A few still gaze around, this time a Yazirian,
and Zhirrzh thought for a second the Pirate Yazirian saw him. But the
Pirate
kept scanning, looking out for...something.
Finally, fed up with the horn, the Pirates at the front
of the vehicle
fire their own laser pistols at the hood, blasting away the locking
hatch.
They lift the hood and reach in to disable the horn.
He can't wait any longer. Brenon releases the safety and presses
the
button to detonate.
Zhirrzh had expected it, but his eyes had not. He saw the gigantic
explosion, saw the Dralasite become engulfed by the flame, and then
his eyes
shut down. Much too bright for the Yazirian eyes, especially in this
darkness. He blinks it off, and after a few moments his vision comes
from
blurred to normal. Already he hears the team's Explorer cresting the
hill,
then the high-pitched shrieks of the Edestekai as they bring up the
rear.
Zhirrzh sees the gate, ripped wide open, a welcome invitation inside
the
compound. The burning shell of the explorer sits right in the middle
of this
opening - Raleigh will have to push it out of the way to avoid burning
Edestekai as they storm in. Pieces of twisted metal lie everywhere,
fiery
shrapnel settles down inside the compound. The explosion was so great
and so
much shrapnel was sent in so many directions, that Brenon was not able
to
identify where the secondary bombs landed. They were rigged to be thrown
*inside* the compound, and he can only assume there are a few lying
about.
But he can't locate them easily.
Zhirrzh takes quick inventory of the damage. The explosion
took most of
the Pirates out, he notices smoking bodies, most of which are dismembered.
It appears two of the 6 may have survived, the last two to join the
fray,
but they are out as far as this battle goes. Both were knocked to the
ground. He sees one has lost both his left arm and leg; he won't last
but a
few more seconds. The other seems intact, but their movement is slow,
disoriented, shocked. They'll both remain on the ground for a long
time....
Assessing the situation, Brenon decides to send
Zhirrzh in.
"Black Knight....green light go. Move on to second objective."
Brenon checks in with Raliegh, BudReep & Kah'liss.
"Wild Card. Prep and prepare for departure. Estimate 5 minutes.....from
my
'mark'..............."MARK".
Brenon turns to Payne, seeing he'd already left to
assemble his team. He
then sends the signal to Payne & Telgar.
"Alpha1 Assemble your team"
"Alpha2 Assemble your team...."
Prepped and ready to go, Brenon moves amongst his Edestekai(Team
Bravo)
"Teams Alpha1,Alpha2,Bravo....merge and proceed with objective.....Lock
and
Load."
Brenon watched on, proud as the Edestekai carried pails of water
and their
"tools" to help their 'gods' village. It was a good plan...
Moments later the teams were assembled into a large group with Payne,
Telgar
& Brenon at their center; hiding amongst the Edestekai.
Quickly they trotted towards the enemy camp. Brenon mentally crossed
his
fingers.....
Brenon's Gear:
Warteck KE-2000 for Long Range
1 ElectorStunner for Close Quarters
1 Frag Grenade
2 Tangler Grenades
1 Doze Grenade
"Five minutes my ass!" Raleigh blurts but not to an open mic. "This
fiasco will be pver in one minute if they dont get cover." With that Raleigh
guns the engines once and rolls to the top of the hill, finally getting
a good look at the carnage at the base. Watching his chronocom tick off
the seconds, Raleigh gets increasingly agitated. He looks back to Bud and
Kahliss, well aware that they could read his mind and didnt like it.
"Look, without something meaner to shoot at those
damn robots will chew our guys up!" he said, as much asking for eprmission
as explaining his view on things.
Raleigh will wait till the E get within the robots
assumed firing range or if he gets permission from one of his passengers.
As soon as one of these criteria is filled, he will gun the explorer down
the hill, lights on and blaring the horn.
Upon reaching the base his objective will be two
fold. Cause as much damage to soft targets as possible. (Pirates, robots,
thin buildings, tower legs) and secondly to draw fire from the E and the
others.
BudRREEEPboopboopboop nods solemnly, well aware
of what needs to be done.
Raleigh nods to Bud, glad that for once the Dralasite
seemed approving of a combat. Turning back to the steering column, Raleigh
pulled slowly to the top of the hill and waited impatiently. Several times
he looked down to ensure that his rifle was still there...damn he hated
the waiting!
Raleigh will wait as long as humanly possible. Ideally
he will not burn until he sees an aggressive move by the pirates, mainly
from the robot towers. Remembering the plan, however, he will stay covert
until needed and then once the crap hits the fan he's on his way.
Without a word Zhirrzh rises and begins a soft footed
sprint toward the base, making sure not to kick up much sand. As he approaches
the compound, he makes sure he gives the damage area a wide berth, yet
still letting the haze of the smoke add to the camouflage his holo screen
affords him.

Payne, no longer able to contain his excitement looks
towards Brennon waiting for him to give the word. The look in Payne's eyes
can easily reveal that this is not his first taste of battle, infact a
good look into Payne's eyes reveal the blood lust of a soldier. It is Payne's
calling to win the day or lay down his life trying. It is easy to see the
consequences of battle mean nothing to this warrior.
Payne has his laser rifle
ready to charge the enemy. Also, Payne has a gyrojet pitol in each pocket.
Tucked away in various other pockets are two clips for each weapon.
