Brenon looks at the two char marks on his chest,
"Well, I've seen
worse..." he says to himself. Brenon lifts up his Chrono and speaks
to the group. "OK group, looks like
everyone made it except for a few cuts and bruises.... Zhirrzh, see
if you
can take out those other two that are fleeing, but if they appear to
have
the upper hand I want you to come back ASAP...they may have a ship
or
something.. Kah'liss see to Raliegh and the rest of our team, then
to the
Drasalite and Monkeymen... The rest of us need to mop up and secure
the
remaining enemies that are asleep. We'll do this in pairs...........oh,
and
good shooting everyone(Brenon gives Kay'liss a little wink when he
says
this).
Brenon will motion for Kay'liss to follow him, he'll
head towards the
pirate that was barking orders and was put to sleep. He will disarm
the
fellow while Kah'liss has his weapon trained on him. I'll tie him up
and
frisk for hidden weapons, knives, etc... If that Albedo suit and disruptor
don't appear in too bad of shape Brenon will snag those off the bad
guy :)
After eveyone is secured we'll begin transporting
them to a central
location(preferedly a wide open space ground) and interrogate them.
Zhirrzh removes the unconscious pirate's weapons and comm equipment,
throwing them to the ground. He then pushes the pirate over the edge of
the branch and watches as the vine breaks the pirate's fall and leaves
him dangling beneath the tree. A grin spreads over Zhirrzh's face as he
imagines the pirate's reaction when he wakes up.
As Brenon's order comes
over his chrono, Zhirrzh's head perks up and in the direction of the fleeing
pirates. Springing into action, Zhirrzh acknowledges Brenon while turning
off his holo screen to conserve energy. He knows its going to take him
a little time to catch up with the fleeing pirates.
Raleigh takes a moment to survey the carnage before
him. "Damn," he mutters to himself as he surveys the
bodies strewn about the battlefield. "Maybe this needler isnt too bad
to have around after all."
Picking himself up off the branch, he waves Kahliss
off and heads for the Dralasite who was aiding the
Kurabundai. Extending his hand, he offers a warm smile. "Names Raleigh,
Raleigh Thoms. You sure are one
brave SOB!"
As the chaos of the battle subsides and the dust
settles, the dralasite,
clutching his wounds and wailing with a low bellow, clambors down the
tree
and falls the remaining few feet into a pile of vines and groundcover
plants.
He moans and lifts a bulb of membrane bearing his eyespot vein
clusters,
surveying the area. Smelling the approach of humans and vrusk,
he turns his
eyespots toward them. The dralasite is a plump specimen, approximately
70 kg. Remarkably, his membrane is not
the typical dull gray, but rather a dusky yellow-ochre with patches
of orange.
The veins in the dralasite's eyespots spread wider
apart, similar to the way
humans' eyes widen when they are surprised. He slowly scuffles
to his three
lower pseudopods, and extends his alpha pseudopod, grasping Raleigh's
hand.
His voice is preceded by a series of barely audible sucking whisps
of air and
whines and says, in broken PanGal with a feeble, raspy voice, "Mebe?
Brabave?
Nobo. Youbu brabave. Youbu sabave ubus." The
dralasite, obviously
weakened by his numerous injuries, exhales the rest of his breath with
a
cough-like sound, and feebly wheezes in more air. He raises his
eyespots up
to meet the eyes of Raleigh and Kah'liss as a strange aroma wafts from
pores.
He says weakly, "Thabank youbu. Allowbow mebe tobo ibntrobodubuce
myselbf.
I abam BudRREEPboopboopboop." With his introduction, he bows.
This is what Kah'liss did. He healed.
But ... he also realized
something .. more now than ever. Before disappearing to help,
he needed a
command questions answered.
"Brenon. Our supplies are ... getting low.
We used a lot our first
days here. And with no sign of replacements ... we might want
to look at ..
conserving them." This appears to be a very hard thing for him
to say, as
the team medic. Regardless, Kahliss tries to avoid feeling
good about some of his shooting, and especially the carnage they created.
He was suppose to think like a medic, not a bloodlusting warrior .. of
course, he consoles himself with the thought that he isn't a doctor ...
but a scientist.
Brenon listens to Kah'liss' argument. He had a point.
The supplies left should be conserved for more critical times. Still, Raliegh's
arm looked pretty damned bad... "I see...., see what you can do to make
Raliegh more comfortable, if you think it's deterimental, then use your
supplies. But if it's something that time will take care of and you can
just clean and slap
some ointment on there then let's do that....." Immediately his thoughts
went to Zhirrzh who was tracking down the
remaining Pirates...hopefully they'll lead back to a vehicle...perhaps
one rich in supplies.....
As BudRREEPboopboopboop smells Brenon approaching [Bryan, could you
please
describe your character's appearance?], he turns his eyespots toward
him. He
rasps feebly, with relief in his voice, "Dibid I.R.F.T. sebend youbu
tobo
sabave ubus?"
Zhirrzh.
{Dexterity Check = 35 Pass}
The Yazirian takes off through the trees, vaulting
to the next tree with
no problems (J13). He doesn't see the Pirates, but
has a feeling in what direction their retreat would be. As he scrambles
through, he hears some shrieks ahead and the crash of
branches. Perhaps someone tripped, he grins to himself as he uses vines
to
push himself along the branches. He grabs a
vine and hurls himself to the next tree (J6).
{Dexterity Check = 95} FAIL
The vine snaps. Instinctively reaching out for anything
to catch his
fall, the Yazirian spots a long branch and reaches out.
{Reaction Speed Check = 98 FAIL}
The branch falls just out of Zhirrzh's reach and
he plummets down. Still
trying to keep composed, he continues to reach
for something to stop his fall.
------------ 10 meter fall ------------
Zhirrzh takes 13 damage
Zhirrzh's current Stamina

{Dexterity Check = 5 PASS}
Zhirrzh grabs a large branch and catches his fall. Damn that hurt.
He pulls
himself up, dusts himself off, and looks around.
20 meters below him, on the ground in an adjacent tree, are the bodies
of
two pirates. This was probably the cracking he
heard. Assuming they faced a similar fate, albeit Zhirrzh was able
to catch
himself. Zhirrzh reports in on the chrono. "I've got
two pirates here. Looks like they fell. I took a tough fall, but I'm
okay."
The trees to the south begin to stir with movement
and a few hissing
shrieks are heard. The remaining Kurabanda, crouched low and studying
the party with a mix of curiosity, suspicion, and
thanks, yelps a few words. The large tree stirs as several Kurabanda
come in, reinforcing the fight they had heard. The come in
gingerly, seeing the party and with weapons ready to strike. The original
Kurabanda barks at them and they remain
steady, glaring at your team.
A noise to Brenon's left catches his attention,
there was movement in the trees...then he saw it, near a dozen or so Kurabandi
emerging from the trees...and they looked pissed. Brenon immediately slung
his weapon and made sure to open his hands and show his empty palms.
After it appears that the Kurabandi are pacified
or at some means satisfied that they aren't a threat; Brenon will continue
hog tieing the bad guys and looting them of their goods/clips,etc.... Brenon
will also be specifically looking for any paperwork they might be carrying
so as to inform them of the enemy whereabouts...
Raleigh, after letting Kahliss perform his magic,
heads over to where Brennon is standing. Patting him
on the back, he quietly mentions, "It's times like these
that Im glad you won the team
leader position."
Raleigh will have a seat next to a tree and rest
his aching body, all the while keeping his auto rifle and
a tangler grenade close at hand.
Telgar lowers his weapon as the battle comes to
an end. He looks around and checks to make sure no one was missed and then
helps check the pirates for equipment and information.
After all the pirates are secured, Brenon
will finally meet up with BudReep and do a formal introduction. "Hello,
I'm Brenon.....nice to meet you. Not bad shooting..." He extends his arm
for the Dras to shake. "I believe you asked us if 'who?'
sent us?" Brenon asked.
After releasing Raleigh's hand, BudRREEPboopboopboop
extends his alpha pseudopod to Brenon, gripping his hand weakly and
awkwardly, obviously ill-versed in this humanoid tradition. He releases
his grip and clutches his wounds again, his countenance twisted in what
is probably the dralasite equivalent of a facial expression of pain.
A tan, puss-like fluid seeps from the wounds, between his pseudodigits,
as he clutches his torn membrane.
"Mebe nobo shooboot. Mebe scibentibist."
Bud pauses, and lowers his optical vein clusters toward the laser
pistol in his beta pseudoextremity. His bulbous torso morphs ever
so slightly into a more angular shape and a fowl
odor emanates from his pores as he pauses to regard the weapon momentarily.
He throws it to the ground. "Mebe habate thobose thibings.
Greabate drabalasibite philobosobopher nabamed '*SCREEECHburp*' sabay 'Aball
libife habave vabalubue. Ebeven thebe tiniebest microbe mubust bebe
spabared.'"
Bud, roused with a start from his pensiveness by
Brenon's question, turns and looks back up at the dusky, hair-faced human.
"I.R.F.Tbe. Thebe Ibin--"
A thought interrupts Brenon's conversation and he
immediately flips on his Chrono, "Zhirrzh...see if the pirates left a trail
and if it leads to anything, but don't go further than 2kms. Brenon out."
Zhirrzh, watching from his position in the bushes
below, backs away and quietly melts into the forest. Once out of earshot
of the new Kurabanda, Zhirrzh keys his chrono."Acknowledged." Moving up
to the level of the battle, Zhirrzh begins a slow circle around the battle
area. Zhirrzh makes sure to keep hidden from the new Kurabanda while searching
for signs of where the pirates first came into this area, hoping he'll
be able to retrace their path back to their starting point.
Brenon looks to the Dras, "Sorry, unfinished business
out here...".
Bud ponders that somberly for a moment, and turns
his eyespots toward the body of the fallen yazirian pirate whom he killed
in the battle. His bulbous body sags slightly and another fowl odor
emanates from his pores. His eyespots lower in a manner similar to
a human display of remorse.
Bud nods his pseudopate
and continues, "Thebe Ibinner Reabch Tebrraforbming Foubndabation."
Realizing that the name elicits no human or vrusk expression of recognition
from the three, and, in turn, that this band of armed men are
not who he had concluded they were, Bud's membrane ebbs slightly and
a new,
unpleasant odor wafts from his pores. His eyespots move warily
from Brenon
to Kah'liss to Raleigh. "Theben, whobo abare youbu?" Bud asks
sheepishly.
Raleigh listens intently, having trouble with the
Dralasites odd 'accent' but able to pick up the gist
of the conversation. He had never cared much for Dralasites, they stunk
and usually had a terrible
sense of humor...although that was a trait this one had not yet exhibited
with his wounds.
Taking a knee next to 'Bud,' Raleigh began administering
first aid as best he could until Kahliss
came to relieve him. Once the dialogue paused between Brennon and Bud,
Raleigh stole the opportunity to ask
a question. "How exactly did you get down here Bud? This isnt
really a well known vacation spot just yet."
As Raleigh tends BudRREEPboopboopboop's wounds [Jason, could you please
describe Raleigh to me? His physical appearance, that is?
Kevin, you too,
please, since you guys are the once who approached me.], Bud's fowl
odor
disipates, and Bud's membrane softens to the touch. He reaches
his beta
pseudopod out and gently tries to touch Raleigh's face as he speaks
[if
Raleigh permits...otherwise, if Raleigh pulls away abruptly, Bud will
pull
away equally as abruptly, rather sheepishly, in fact, fearful that
he has
insulted the human], "Mebe cobme wibth I.R.F.Tbe." Bud puffs
out his upper
torsoid section, "Mebe terraforbmer, cobme to terraforbm thibis plabenet
forbor Ibinner Reabeach gobovernmebent." Bud gestures with a
wide arc of his
gamma pseudopod, "Cobme wibith whobole teabm..." and becomes sullen
for a
moment, his entire body sagging, and his eyespots lowering to the ground,
"Gebet cabptured byby pirabates. Thebey enslabve ubus...." A
fowl odor
emanates from Bud's pores as he describes in only simple terms the
flurry of
atrocities that flood his recent memory: "Kibll mabany," he chokes
somberly.
Bud pauses, regaining his composure just enough
to continue, "Abafter
sebveral weebeeks, mebe escabape wibith teabm roboticibist, DARgoop.
Pirabates traback ubus dobown, kibill DARgoop. Mebe jubust bareleby
escabape
alibive."
Bud nods his pseudopate and nods sidelong at the
armed Kurabanda
approaching behind him. "Kurababanda tabake mebe ibin.
Tebend mebe
woubounds. Mabake mebe feebeel welcobme. Thebey verybe
fubunny," he
giggles, "VEEEErybe fubunny." Bud giggles again.
Once done, Raleigh will approach Brennon and have a private conversation.
Even though the battle had ended (and Zhirrzh was
trying to track
down any traces of the remaining enemy), there
was still a bustle of
activity going on. Brenon and Kah'liss crossed
the trees to L14 to
begin securing the unconscious pirate there.
The Dralasite and Raleigh
began conversing, with Telgar and LStaric
in between the two groups.
There were two other pirates unconscious in
L11, where the remaining
Kurabanda was. To top that off, Kurabanda
reinforcements were pouring
into the trees, drawn no doubt from nearby
by the sounds of battle.
The Kurabanda acknowledge
BudReeep and glare suspisiously at the
party. The surviving Kurabanda shouts out
a few yelps, apparrently
reassuring the newcomers that this second
group of outsiders aided
them in battle. A few of the Kurabanda, weilding
spears, hiss at
Raleigh, Telgar, and LStaric, but remain behind
the Dralasite,
allowing him to continue the conversation.
The surviving Kurabanda
shouts a few grunts again, and several of
the reinforcement's ears perk up. They scramble
quickly to the
Kurabanda and the unconscious pirates. Their
skill at traversing the
trees is admirable as they leap across the
limbs with no trouble.
Indeed, this is their home, the branches of
the Bachanda trees their
walkways.
A handful of Kurabanda arrive
at (L11). Punching the unconscious
pirates, nudging them with their spears, they
begin jumping and
yipping excitedly, yelling back to others
as well. The surviving
Kurabanda also point out areas where the fallen
Kurabanda were;
several head that way to check on their status.
The Kurabanda are very rough
on the unconscious pirates. One draws
a knife and lunges it straight into the helpless
man's shoulder.
Punching savagely at them, the Kurabanda gleefully
begin cutting vines
of their own and begin tying their captives
up. They wrap the vines
tightly about their wrists, legs, and neck.
Before you can comment about
the treatment (one of the pirates (P1)
was the one weilding the Sonic Devastator),
the surviving Kurabanda,
folowed by 2 others, step toward Brenon and
Kah'liss cautiously,
weapons ready but not weilded in a menacing
way. They examine the two
closely, then gaze upon Raleigh, Telgar, and
LStaric for a minute. You
see that they are monkey-like folk with furry
torsos, who stand about
1.5 meters tall. Each of them is wearing some
type of amulet or
necklace. They resemble tarsier-monkeys you
may have seen in human
zoos back in the Frontier.
After staring at the team
for several minutes, the surviving
Kurabanda speaks to Brenon and Kah'liss. You
are surprised when you
hear from its mouth not the yelps of their
native language, but a
broken Pan-Gal.
"Hhoo...Uou?"

broken Pan-Gal.
"Hhoo...Uou?"
A look of surprise quickly crossed Brenon's face
as one of the monkey men
spoke Pan; albeit poor in structure, it was intelligible. It was at
this
point that Brenon truely realized that something was not right. They
know
Pan....they know pan?....how? His eyes immediately darted to BudReep,
wondering if perhaps he taught them..? Brenon was finding it increasing
difficult to trust Streel, he was finding it very hard at this point
to
believe they didn't know more than they had initially let on....'they've
played us for fools' Brenon thought quietly to himself... his thoughts
were
immediately interrupted by more Pan from the Kurabanda..
"We are in search of another group of travelers,
one of their numbers was a
Drasalite; like Buddy here <Brenon points to BudReep>, we had heard
that a
Drasalite was living amongst these trees and decided to check it out"
"Yhere uou com frum?" The Kurabanda continues
to ask.
"We are not of this world, we are explorers; come to explore this world"
"Yh uou fite ... demuns frum thah skieh?"
'Well, that answered that question' Brenon thought
to himself, 'They musta
flown in.'
"We do not like these 'demons', they enslave others
and have tried on many
occasions to kill our kind"
"If I may ask....how is it that you know Pan...?"
The Kurabanda snorts and ponders the human's answers. You are not sure
he
understood everything, but he at least was more relaxed with you than
the other
wary reinforcements.
Not answering his question, the Kurabanda skitters to
an adjacent branch,
grunting something to another monkey. {{Brenon and Kah'liss are standing
10
meters from the Kurabanda, at L14. The Kurabanda are at L11. You are
looking at
each other from the edges of two trees.}}
Bud lowers his pseudoextremity from Raleigh's face
and turns to Brenon to answer,
"Prebevious ebexplorers teabeach thebem. Dralasite." Bud's
countenance
seems to curl into what one would almost swear was a smile of pride.
The Kurabanda looks to the tree where Brenon and
Kah'liss stand. "Uou, cOme
wit Kurabanda. Uou tak to cheef we."
It took Brenon a moment, at first he thought the
monkey man said, 'Chef'
and he was immediately unsettled.... but then a ray of recognition
set in
an Brenon realized he was trying to say..."Chief". He looked to BudReep
for
some sort of comforting nod, anything to indicate that these fellows
were
O.K. and didn't intend the fate of his team to be tonight's stew....
Bud nods his pseudopate, and lowers his voice, "Ibit
obokabee. Kurababanda
friebndly. Thebey helbp ubus. Cobme..." Bud leads, "Nobot
fabar. Tribibe
nobot fabar." Bud points through the trees, "Obne mile.
Thibis waybe."
Bud turns toward the forest canopy. He takes
a few weak steps forward and
looks around for the rest of his companions, Lomonada, Moloashu, Kurmanada,
Juramanu and Ermorada. Seeing none of them, he stops in his tracks.
His
eyespots scan the foliage more carefully...
Unable to see his Kurabanda band, BudRREEPboopboopboop
steps slowly into
the foliage -- a globule of vivid orange-ochre against the wispy verdure
--
using forest tracking techniques to confirm his worst suspicion...
Seeing a
break in the rising groundcover, Bud approaches the broken vegetation
and
stops, pausing to regard what he hoped he would not find.
Bud lowers himself over the remains of Juramanu,
his tiny, furry body
seared with laser blasts and missing an arm. Bud touches the
beast's face
and slightly changes shape, emitting a mournful wailing sound from
his pores.
He lifts the charred and broken body of the creature from the
ground and
hoists him around where his shoulders would be if he had any.
He steps
further into the trees. Bud slumps to the ground as his optical
vein
clusters fall upon a grisly sight...
[Queue ominous John Williams score...]
Strewn across the forest floor are countless limbs,
torsos, and corpses of
the fallen Kurabanda. Immediately recognizable are the arm of
Lomonada, with
its missing third finger lost a decade ago in his highly acclaimed
battle
against the rabid flitter in an excursion into the caverns; the gray-flecked
legs of Kurmanada, the trusted scout of the tribe for two generations
whose
counsel to the elders was always regarded with veneration; the blasted
body
of Juramanu, still relatively intact except for the gaping, charred
hole in
his lower torso. Bud had to turn away before he ever even saw
the
decapitated head of the young warrior Moloashu, forever frozen in a
death
mask of abject horror and the savage fervor of battle.
"Sabavagery!" Bud wails balefully, as the stench
of rotting something wafts
from his pores. "Whybe? Theybe kibll...debestroybe thebe
ebecosybystem...slaubaughter ibinnocenbent creabeatures! Nobo
reabeason
behibind ibit... sebencelebess murburder! DABAMN THOBOSE PIRABATES
TOBO
VOIBOID!" Bud's voice wavers between a dejected screech and a
deep, mournful
bellow. Without turning toward the party of explorers, his pseudopate
hanging low, Bud beseeches them, "Mubust helbp. Mubust bribing
deabed baback
tobo ebelders fobor fubuneral pyrebre...pees..."
Zhirrzh crouches down and picks up a broken twig.
He turns it in his hand, comparing it to the others in the area. Sniffing
the newly exposed bark, he can tell that it had been broken recently. The
sound of his prey still echoes ahead of him. Whoever it was, they weren't
trying to cover their tracks. The noise they were making was enough to
alert the entire forest.
The twig falls to the branches below as Zhirrzh
swings off again into the trees. His movements have become steadier, more
confident, as he grows accustomed to moving across the thick limbs. Grabbing
a vine, Zhirrzh swings comfortably to the next tree. He lands with a soft
thump on another limb and picks up the trail, finding it easily. With the
crashing in the forest acting as a signal beacon, Zhirrzh homes in on his
prey.
The brief exchange with the Kurabanda ends and both
teams focus on the spoils of war - the Kurabanda are especially happy to
see the prisoners, and once they awaken, the monkey-men often hiss and
throw sticks at them, pestering and tormenting the prisoners. Although
by an unsaid warrior's creed the two pirates the team tied up are acknowledged
as their prisoners, the Kurabanda occasionally throw things at the two
pirates in Brenon and Kah'liss' custody. The Pirates all seem fearful of
being captive in the Kurabanda's presence.
The Kurabanda in charge, you hear his name called by the
others as Ermorada, speaks with BudReep briefly and then begins securing
several long sticks - quartering canes to haul the prisoners in. BudReep
explains to Brenon that the Kurabanda want to take the prisoners back to
the tribe for trial, torture and execution. BudReeep told the Kurabanda
that the team may want to question the "Demons from the Sky" to learn more
about them, which may lead in more victorious battle in the future. Ermorada
acknowledges the request and agrees that may be worthwhile, but would rather
do it at the tribe where the chief could ask questions of his own.
Regardless of where/when you want to question the
captured Pirates, you spend a half hour recovering items from the dead
Pirates. You come up with the following (this includes the 2 pirates Zhirrzh
looted)

Zhirrzh.
It seemed the path the Yazirian was following was
a large arc. Heading west to northwest initially, he followed the sounds
of a potential retreating pirate for a few hundred meters in this direction
before turning sharply southward. A few times Zhirrzh loses his trail and
the only noise is that of the forest. But finding broken branches or disturbed
limbs, the yazirian catches the path again. Eventually, Zhirrzh comes to
the edge of the forest and overlooks the shard plains to his south. Scanning
the area around him, he spots an Explorer, blazing a retreating trail Eastward.
Disgruntled, the Yazirian lifts his wrist and activates
the chrono. "Zhirrzh here. Enemy has escaped in an Explorer. I'm at the
forest's edge, half a click south west of you. Overlooking those shard
plains. Looks like they parked here and went on their raid."
=============================
Referee's Note:
Remember that your Explorer is 50 meters away. You can take anything back to it and the Kurabanda will wait for you to do so. They will take you to the tribe which is a kilometer to the west. It is not reachable by Explorer.
You can question the pirates now if you want, but the Kurabanda will
start showing signs of impatience and will begin to demand you go to the
tribe with the prisoners for questioning there. The Kurabanda will hoist
the 4 prisoners on four seperate poles, each carried by 2 Kurabanda (or
you, if you want to carry your own), much like humans coming in from a
hunt with a large animal.
