[OOC]
To clear up what all characters know IC, I've highlighted all ship
intercom messages in Yellow.
Those that were not in the bridge know nothing else, so RP that....
[IC]
Brenon and Zhirrzh are on their way up to the bridge to get a view of
Volturnus. They hear the intership intercom come on again. "Stand
by, folks.
We've got company."
Brenon's head quickly turns to Zhirrzh at the mention of "company."
"Did he
say 'We've got company?'" It was a rhetorical question. Both knew what
they'd heard. "It didn't sound like the good kind of company either."
Zhirrzh adds. The lighting in the Serena Dawn had changed to yellow.
In
response, Brenon and Zhirrzh race the rest of the way to the bridge.
Main Cargo Hold.
Kah'liss enters the Cargo Bay just after the Yazirian
and Human leave to
see Volturnus. He looks around the room and begins to move toward
the
Explorer. He stops and unloads the supplies that he carried down
with him
from the room. About that time, the announcement of visitors
rings over the
intercom. Kah'liss grumbles to himself, realizing that the only
kind of
visitors in these parts will be unfriendly and that they /should/ have
rigged that door...
He then stops as the realization of the events unfolding
actually
connect. His head comes up to look around, instantly moving to
arm and
cradle the gun, slipping his medpac over his shoulder. Sadly,
Vrusks' don't
hide well in confined quarters like the cargo bay, so ... he takes
his items
and climbs into the cabin of the shuttle. Yes ... Deadman's switch.
He
begins looking for a way to activate the engines of the shuttle if
he loses
consciousness ... would be at least a little deterrent to the pirates....
Telgar is busy pondering the coming mission when
he is interrupted by
the intercom. "Could've guessed this would happen" Telgar says
to himself
as he gets up quickly. He immediately runs to the cargo area
as quickly as
possible in order to obtain some more weapons and in order to ensure
that in
the event that a boarding takes place, there will be a separate group
to
surprise the visitors.
As Telgar enters the cargo area, he see Kah'Liss
inside the Shuttle.
"We should've rigged the doors!" he yells as he stops inside the room.
"We
need to get some more weapons ready in case these people want to board.
I
figure we should remain separate from the others, so that we can always
surprise attack if needed... and what the hell are you doing in the
Shuttle?!"
Kah'liss looks up from his rapid devising of a make
shift Dead man's
switch ... which appears to use a lot of rubber bands ... or something
like
that... "Hello Telgar. I was not sure if anyone would elect to
join me in
this location, and knowing quite well the limitations of my fighting
skills,
I was rigging a dead man's switch so that in the event that I become
unable
to hold it open, that the invaders would enjoy the inferno that the
shuttle's engines would cause." He then realizes, "Space suits
... we will
need the protection of space suits..." He immediately sets to
looking for
those....Yes, the Airlock in the Cargo hold has suits. The Vrusks rushes
over
into the Airlock, opens the locker, and speedily dons the suit. The
quick Vrusk gets
the suit on in less than a minute. He rushes back to the Shuttle,
climbs back into the cockpit, and slips his hand into the 'Deadman's
switch'....
...Telgar is trying to locate some weapons.
He climbs into the cargo area of the shuttle,
where the Explorer has been packed, and begins scrounging for the weapons
he may
need to use. He's looking for a Wartech KE-2000 Laser Rifle, his knives,
a smoke
grenade, and a Wartech KE-1500 Laser pistol. This should provide
sufficient defense
and give an extra weapon or two to pass off to others when provided
the opportunity.
Lyrium enters the cargo hold, looking for a place to hide her blaster.
Gwarth heads to the meeting place after hearing the
announcement. If
anyone asks what is going on, he's not exactly sure. Once met up with
everybody, he is anxious and a little nervous.
Bridge.
Brenon, Zhirrzh, Raleigh.
When they reach the Bridge, Brenon asks, "What's going on?" Zhirrzh
glances
at the view screen and notices the light cruiser on an intercept course.
Looking at the readout under the screen, he notes the cruiser's shields
are
up and the distance is closing. "Are we being jammed?" Zhirrzh asks.
"They've got our mouths duo-taped up," Naydash announces,
not specifically
to Zhirrzh. "Whatever their plan is, they don't want us talking right
now to
anyone."
"Cruiser's coming to bear, 2000km and holding steady on course,"
Stu adds.
Balou turns to the Navigator. "Stu, keep her purring, we may
need to do
some fancy dancing in a minute....Naydash Gwarth
heads to the meeting place after hearing the announcement. If
anyone asks what is going on, he's not exactely sure. Once met up with
everybody, he is anxious and a little nervous.
, rip that tape off, I don't care what
you have to do. I want to be able to send a sub-space if things get
dirty." He
casts a quick glance to the team members who have just entered the
bridge. "You
weren't expecting a welcome committee, were you?"
Stu continues his report. "A few banks of
laser batteries, a couple
torpedo launchers. Not too heavily armed for a cruiser."
Balou nods. "Keep us out of range of those lasers, Stu."
"-- Jamming's off, Balou, they're transmitting," Naydash says.
"Let's hear it."
At first, nothing. Only the occasional beeps of the Serena's
computers as
they bustled with their new found data. After many long moments, a
voice from the
cruiser echoed on the bridge. Simple, blunt: "...Lower shields and
prepare
to be boarded. You are outgunned." A deep human voice. Someone who
obviously
chooses actions to words. He seemed incredibly bored that he had to
say anything at
all.
"Naydash, subspace?" Balou asks. She already had the answer.
"--Possibly, they're jamming in an arc to our portside. We can
talk to
them, but no one else...so they think. It's hard to cover that much
space."
"You can get through that, Naydash. Send one. Let Truane's Star
know what's
going on. So I guess they aren't here with milk and cookies." Naydash
already
anticipated his request and keyed in the final instructions. The message
was
sent. Hopefully it made it through the jamming field intact. Impossible
to
tell.
"Pirates?" Stu asked aloud, to no one imparticular. They
weren't known
for being conversationalists.
Balou shrugged. "Rich pirates, with some inside information
to boot, if
that's the case."
"-- 1000 kilometers."
Balou nods to Naydash, waits for her acknowledgment, and
then speaks. "We
are under flag of the Truane's Star Government. Identify yourselves."
Another long delay. The annoyed voice finally answered.
"Lower your
shields now and prepare to be boarded. One minute."
Naydash shook her head. "They're right on top of us again
with their
jamming. Whatever window we had, it's all but closed now. They are
finished talking.
I did transmit some sub-spaces, though."
"Think they got through?" Balou questioned.
"Good chance of it. Trying to jam a blanket area of space
always leaves
holes. I think I found one in time."
"45 seconds from their mark, Captain," Stu informs....
Brenon turns to Naydash, "Naydash, I need to address
the ship, show me
how to operate the intercom."
"Stand By, Brenon," Balou orders, authority instantly
intensifying.
"She's mine." Balou pushes a button on his console.
"Attention everyone,
we've been ordered to surrender and prepare to
be boarded. I suggest getting
to your equipment and arming yourselves, should
we need it. An unknown
cruiser is closing on us."
Zhirrzh turns to the captain. "I admit I don't know
the capabilities of
your ship, but I don't think we'll survive a boarding or a space battle.
We
need to get everyone on the shuttle and get out of here." Zhirrzh stops
a
moment, then continues. "Does the Serena Dawn have a self-destruct
and can
you tie into it from the shuttle?"
Stu glances up briefly at Zhirrzh's question. "40
seconds..Mark....I'm
still keeping us out of laser range. She's closing; within torpedo
range
now."
Balou regards Zhirrzh for a moment and taps another
button, opens a
channel to Engineering. "We'll need some power, Grynh. Cruiser is closing
in
on us. Do what you can." The Engineer acknowledges the request.
Brenon turns to Balou, "Captain, I've seen situations
like these
before......they're never pretty. They'll either kill us or leave
us for
dead on Volturnus, either way they'll take the Dawn. I agree with Zhirrzh,
our best bet is to escape by shuttle, we can use the subspace radio
once
we're out of jamming range. Their being attached to the Dawn with a
boarding
crew on board will slow them down considerably. I know this may not
sound
pretty but I like Zhirrzh's suggestion about a remote self-destruct."
Stu snickers to himself at his console, mumbles
something, refuses to
look up. Naydash does glance to Brenon, snarls softly. Balou turns
his head
instantly to Brenon. "The Dawn has been through some tough times and
I'll be
damned if we're going to scrap her without a fight. If you want to
prepare
your shuttle I'll let you go if the situation allows, but get there
quick
because our time is running out. I'm not dropping shields to let you
out if
it gets tight." He turns back to the view screen, taps the ship intercom
button. "This is the Captain, everyone turn your
chronos on Channel 3;
quicker communication that way....Channel 3 on
your Chronos. Standby." He
tosses his head towards Zhirrzh and Brenon. "Now you can talk to your
team.
We are not surrendering the Dawn." He turns back and prompts Stu for
the
Cruiser's distance, apparently finished with the conversation.
"Torpedo away," Naydash barks. "Bastards did not
give us a full minute."
Stu shakes his head. "Won't be a problem evading
this one. Distance too
far. If Grynh gives us some ion."
Balou beckons Engineering again. "Torpedo, Grynh.
Give us a shower of
ion and throw her off." In a matter of seconds a hollow boom echoes
though
the walls of the ship. A trick anyone with Ion Engines has learned
to use. A
little bit of ion and a bit more evasion made it easier to avoid torpedos.
Stu counts the remaining seconds until torpedo impact;
the Dawn easily
evades. Not even a shutter as the missile zooms quietly past the ship.
"They
just want to see if we're up for it," Balou concludes....
Zhirrzh nods his acceptance to the captain. "I understand Captain. I'm
going down to the cargo bay to grab a few items and make final preparations
to get the shuttle off. If you can scan that ship and let us know over
our chronocoms how many life forms are on board, I imagine it would help."
Zhirrzh nods to the Captain and turns to leave the
bridge, confident the captain is in control of the situation for the time
being. As he rushes out, Balou turns to him, quickly, "Get everyone ready
and let me know. If I can get you out of here, I will. The Dawn is ours
to worry about." Zhirrzh nods, races toward the shuttle bay, shouting into
his chronocom at the same time: "Streel Corp
Team, we've just been fired upon by a Superior Space Vessel. They have
us out gunned and outrun. It is imperative that all members prepare for
immediate evac via shuttle. Whomever is nearest the shuttle should scrounge
up some weapons for others as they arrive in case it gets ugly...Zhirrzh
out"
Raleigh
nods and follows the Yazirian out. "Gang, how about joining me for a little
exercise? A quick
sprint down to the shuttle I think is in order."
And with that he bolts through the bridge door and heads for the bay.
Brenon
turns to the captain, "Sir, there are things more noble than
going down with your ship.........saving the
lives of your crew for one, we
both know you're outmatched......it was too much
of a coincidence that they
just happened to be here, I think we've been
betrayed......either by one of
our own or from an external source."
Brenon
raises his voice and speaks to all on the bridge, "...We'll
wait as long as we can..." Brenon's eyes fall
back on the captain, "Let us
know the second those shields are down..."
Brenon
then turns and quickly leaves the bridge heading rapidly for
the shuttle.
Balou shakes his head as the
Streel team exit the bridge. "Surrender,", they say. "I doubt if
she were theirs, they'd not be so willing to give her up. Let's get what
we can from the Cruiser; I know her shields are up but see what you can
pick up off of her."
The Cruiser's laser batteries
come to life. In Range. The Dawn, her smaller size and quicker turning
angles, evades easily. "They better get that shuttle ready to go fast,"
the Captain announces....
