[IC]

Brenon, glad of turning in early the night before, eagerly jumps out of
bed, clears the sleep from his eyes and proceeds to excercise; doing 100
push-ups, then 80 sit-ups, completed by 40 pull-ups.  Brenon turns to
Zhirrzh, "...Finally...., something to do! I was beginning to feel like a
Rieyak stuck in a cage....... I say we head down to the Explorer, load up
our gear and check weapons and supplies again. We also need to find one of
those techies, I think we should have one of them checkout the Explorer's
systems before LZ."
Zhirrzh nods, "Good idea. The sooner we get loaded, the sooner we get planetside. I
think Raleigh could probably check the Explorer. I've worked out with the
guy a bit, and he seems ok. A bit slow on the reflexes, but ok." Zhirrzh
grins, also feeling in a particularly good mood. "Let's go ahead and pull
him out of bed if he isn't already and head down."
"Sounds good to me. You go ahead and get Raleigh and I'll meet the two of you down in the cargo hold. I'll get started on inventory."
"Right. See you there." Zhirrzh leaves his room and walks over to Raleigh's room. He silently opens the door and peeks in. "Hey Raleigh," he whispers. "You awake?"

Kah'liss slowly awakes from his slumber.  With graceful ease, he moves
out of his bed and to his small rice mat in the corner where he begins his
morning mediations.  As he does so, he looks at the sleeping form of his
companion and wonders exactly how someone with his body composition can take
so much alcohol without being affected.  He sits down and clears his mind of
the plans that they have for that day...
Telgar sees that Kah'Liss is finally starting to move about and just
grins to himself.  He shrugs off the mild pain in his temples trying to look
somewhat presentable.  It reminds him of some of the training he received in
the Academy.  It will pass soon enough.  Now Telgar focuses on what lies
ahead.  For someone of his profession, pre-planning and mental preperation
is always a good start.  He watches as Kah'Liss awakens...
Kah'liss spends the next 30 minutes in silent preparation for the day,
finding his Tai'has.  When he finishes, he attends to his more physical
needs, thumping the side of Telgar's bed as he does so, "Our companions will
be in the cargo bay any time now, you may wish to at least make yourself
presentable for when we join them, or your chances with the human female
Lyrium will be greatly reduced."
Telgar playfully punches Kah'Liss in the side.  "You know I can't stay
away from women!  At any rate, I was thinking the same thing.  We will need
to start thinking of what we want to carry.  I think after we finish there,
I'm going to do some exercises to warm myself up for the trip to the
surface.  As usual, you are invited to come, but I'm sure you have more
significant things to do at this point."
Kah'liss realizes he is being teased, but then, that is what they both
do so well to each other.  "And as usual, I do."  He disappears to finish
his physical attentions and returns, "I will head down to the cargo bay now,
You will join me there shortly, correct?"
    "Sure will." Telgar says.
The two figures part onto their individual ways...

Serena Dawn. 10:15. Bridge.

"...And here we are," Stu concludes after dropping the ship from Impulse
into orbit around the planet Volturnus.
Balou looks at the planet on the viewscreen a few moments, then nods.
Not bad. Knowing the team will be anxious to see this.  He taps a button on
his armchair to open the intercom shipwide.
"Good morning again everyone...We are now in orbit around Volturnus. If
you'd like to take a look at where you'll be the next three months, come on
up." He releases the button and leans forward in his chair. "How the hell
are they supposed to find one downed ship on that big rock?" He looks to
Nayden. "Lets start some scanning down there - there may be an emergency
beacon going off somewhere. Nayden nods and begins work at her console.
"Engines looking good. I might as well start the overhaul," Grynh
offers, rising from his seat. "I'll be down in Engineering prepping her up.
Let me know when the team leaves, I'll give them my good lucks to them."
Balou nods. "When they're off we'll give you a hand."

Nayden watches her screen as the sensors scan the planet. The Serena
Dawn was not a Research Vessel by any means and the equipment they had was
hardly adequate for finding a ship planetside. But if there was an emergency
beacon out there, there was a good chance of picking it up.
    --  Blip --
Nayden frowned. What was that? She checked the coordinates again; that
couldn't be right.

    -- Blip --

"Chugh," Nayden cursed in Yazirian tongue. Balou and Stu turned quickly
to her. "What do you have, Nayden?" Balou asked.
She shook her head. Definately not planetside. This was another ship,
just showing itself as it rounded the curvature of Volturnus. She punched
some quick buttons and the shot of the viewscreen changed. It focused on a
light Cruiser, heading straight for the Serena Dawn.
Stu had an answer before anyone could ask. "Coming right on us, light
cruiser. Shields raised."
Balou frowns, "What the hell? Stu get our shields up. Prepare for
evasive, arm lasers...Nayden ---"
"Too late," Nayden answers. "They're blasting us with white light. We're
being jammed and they don't want to talk. I'm upping the gain, maybe I can
get through."
Balou shakes his head. "Shit. Who the hell are they?" It was standard
Light Cruiser, to be sure. No mysterious alien race involved here. Who would
be sitting out here?  "If she's a Cruiser they've no doubt got a few
fighters on board."
The lighting in the Serena Dawn change to Yellow as the shields are
raised. Balou sits at the front of his chair, tapping his lip quickly as he
ponders his next move. "I wonder if they knew we were coming."
Stu looks up. "7000 km away, closing."
Balou shakes his head. "We can't take on a cruiser, even if it is a
light class." He turns the intercom to Engineering. "Grynh, you there yet?"
The Engineer answers immdeiately. "Good. Standy on your overhaul, we're
going to need those engines."
A brief pause. "What are you getting us into now, Balou?"
"We've got some company, don't know what they are. We may need you for
some power management."
Grynh answers cooly. "Nothing I haven't done before. I'll keep her
purring for us, you just keep us in one piece."
Balou taps the intership intercom again. "Stand by, folks. We've got
company."
