Turn 1 Response A, Aug 27 1998

IC:
>>Rsyeak continues. He looks
>>around the table. "Well, I’ve spoken enough for now. Any questions so far?"

Lyrium glances up from her notes and nods, "What if we need early extraction, sir? Is there a plan for that, or are we stuck for the duration, should things get rough?" Lightly tapping her pen point on the white pad of paper, pale eyes regard
Rsyeak awaiting his response.
Ryseak ponders a moment, then nods. "Yes, you may come to such a situation. If there is an accident and anyone requires immediate evacuation." He thinks another moment, glancing briefly at an aide, then continuing. "The initial expedition, since they landed with their ship, has a subspace radio. Obviously, if it was in working condition, we would have heard something from them. I think we can throw in a subspace for you." He looks quickly down at some notes. "I believe any of the Techexs could properly align the dish antennae and submit an emergency message."
Azad nods. "Shouldn’t be any problem. I’ve handled mobile subspace transmitters before."
Ryseak smiles. "Good. We’ll also provide a subspace for you then." He pauses, then turns to the human assistant next him. "Sheila, I’m not sure we have any of those lying around. Could you check on getting one of those for us? You can’t go down to the local Gen Store and pick one of those babies up." Sheila agreed and went to work at a file computer in front of her.
Kah’liss nods in agreement with Lyrium’s request. He looks at Telgar and begins nervously twitching his fingers.
Brenon glances up from the console before him, puzzled.  "I don't see any demolitions equipment here." He shakes his head, "I'll need at least 350 grams of TD-19, not D-20, I hate that shit. I'll also need 4 pressure detonators, one variable time detonator and a short radio beam detonator. I realize this is a 'rescue' operation but we're gonna be in the bush for a while and I don't want to take any chances. I'm gonna pretend these aren't just standard KE Rifles and that you've at least made some modifications to 'em; like muzzle extenders and scopes....right? If not we'll NEED them outfitted as such. If we're gonna keep watch at night we'll also need IR Goggles, Zhirrzh can't keep watch all night. I want any/all information you have on Volturnus, climate, temp, and our presumed LZ. I'd also like to request more water, though it's possible to live on small quantities of water...." Brenon pauses for a moment as if recollecting...."....it uh...it would be best to have a more abundant supply in case of emergencies."
Kah'liss  nods in agreement with Brenon. . "As group medic, It would be wise to double food and water. Many things will occur in situation with unknown quantities that will deplete these two supplies much more rapid than desired and leave us in uncomfortable situation." Kah'liss dialogues with the marked hiss of a Vrusk speaking Pan-Galactic.
Ryseak listens quietly to the two, slightly nodding his head at the end of Kah’liss’ statement. Kah’liss, I believe we can double food and water rations," he nods to the Dralasite aide, who begins typing into his console. "Long range system scans do report prime conditions on Volturnus. Should be a bit of water for you, but yes, we can double the ration with no problems." He regards Brenon. "You do know that Streel does not deal in Weapons production. Under normal hiring conditions, in the need of independent Enforcers, they typically provide their own weapon enhancements. Indeed, most prefer their own weapons." He taps two fingers across his bottom lip slowly, in thought. "These…’standard’ rifles should prove more than adequate, provided the fact that we are loaning them to you. However, I think we can add a few scopes and extenders." He glances at his console and spends a few moments punching some keys. "Yes, looks like I can provide 4 Muzzle Extenders and 5 scopes. They are interchangeable per weapon, and you’ve got more than you’ll need with that."
Kah’liss tilts his head as he examines the list again. "Need more knives. Archaic object, many purposes, no
moving parts..." He looks up with the Vrusk equivalent of a grin, "Best item to keep. Also need Duo-Tape and Vitasalt pills... many of each."
"A case of 400 Vitasalt pills and Duo-Tape. Done," Ryseak agrees. "In addition to the machetes, you’ll also have 10 knives to pull from." Ryseak looks down, pushes another button, and the hologram comes to life again. In the forefront of the image is the deep space probe. Far in the distance is the planet Volturnus. "What’s to know about Volturnus…The deep space probe we sent out was not a planetary probe. It was to identify any planets in the system, take initial planetary readings of atmospheric and planetary density, chemical and mineral makeup, and continue on to the next celestial body in the system. So, unfortunately we do not have any approved or suggested Landing Zones for you. From initial readings, Volturnus seems a much nicer planet than…dare I suggest, Pale itself. Arid to humid temperatures, potential for some nice beach resorts in some years times, I imagine. It’s atmosphere is prime, 78% Nitrogen, 21 Oxygen. 24 hour days, gravity 1.0g. Once we finally get this thing going, I believe Volturnus has some great opportunities around water bodies. It may be a bit too warm anywhere else….but that’s coming from someone who’s lived here on Pale for 10 years. Of course, we are initially interested in its mineral wealth; the system being this far out on the rim makes it hard to convince would be tourists to travel a 15 day one-way trip to the system, not counting the layovers. Looks like a high percentage of the minerals Vibrillium and Tomarillium, along with  your typical high deposits of iron and other ore. While we’re on it, I suppose we should discuss the topic of Explorer’s Rights."
The party listens attentively. Explorer’s Rights of a virgin planet. Would the Mega-Corp go into some of its twisted legalities and claim everything or would the party benefit from some of the potential treasure finds?
Ryseak continues. "Being primarily a rescue mission, a lot depends on what has already been mapped and discovered by the initial expedition." He motions to Lyrium. "However, Lyrium has been hired for her  Environmental background and has naming rights to all unclaimed or undiscovered flora, fauna, and animal life. Any new chemical or mineral elements discovered are claimed by Streel, but such remarkable finds will generate a substantial bonus to the group as a whole.  Finding and establishing friendly contact with intelligent life will also generate bonuses to the team. A look at your salary shows that Streel will pay well for proper services rendered; we will provide further bonuses for prime mining or colonization sites. I’ll be glad to continue, but before we answer further questions on that aspect, I’d like to go back to the equipment situation." He looks down at his console. The Dralasite gestures to something on Ryseak’s screen. "Yes," the Yazirian speaks. "To further answer your request, Brenon, we will provide 4 pairs of IR goggles, 300 grams of TD-19, and the detonators you require for detonation."
Zhirrzh efficiently scans the equipment list, counting up all the items on his normal operations list and mentally marking the items that are missing. One bit of information immediately leaps out at him.  "Rsyeak, I don't see any defense screens on this list. Since this is a rescue mission, there's the greater chance that we'll be charging into some sort of trouble. Since we don't know what we're getting into, I'd think a little more defensive equipment would be in order."  He gives Rsyeak a wry grin and switches to Yazirian to quote, "A rescuer doesn't want to be rescued."
Zhirrzh switches back to Pan-Galactic. "Also, there are a few items missing from my personal operations equipment list. They include a large sword, an Exoskeleton, a Toxyrad gauge, and a slide mount. What are you willing to provide?"
Ryseak smiles faintly, then raises a brow. "Exoskeleton, large sword? If we were expecting a melee war, Truane’s Star would be more than willing to send in the military, I’m sure. I do not see how an Exoskeleton, nor a large sword,  are vital ‘personal’ gear for the mission. The two Envirokits you have at your disposal include different CAS scanners, but I don’t think it would hurt to provide the party some personal gauges…Agreed. We’ll be sure to add 7 Toxy Rads to your list, one for each of you. You never know if you split up and are away from a kit when you’ll need a Rad. As far as the slide mount goes…the odds are very slim that we are sending you into a war zone. It is an unchartered planet in an unchartered system. The Zebulon Star Route, originating from Truane’s Star, is the only safe and tested route to the Zebulon system. Yes, you ARE on a rescue mission, which is why I believe we are providing a sufficient amount of weaponry. But a slide mount, giving you the ability to quick draw, is something I believe extends the scope of our provisioning." He looks to his console again, pauses, glances back to Zhirrzh. He begins to speak, stops himself, checks the console again, and continues on. "As for defenses. The Skeinsuits we provided will protect from most projectiles, shrapnel, bullets, that sort. You want screens too? I may be able to acquire a few Inertia screens for you. What else would you be interested in? Albedo? It will be hard to convince Accounting to throw an additional 2,000 credits per Albedo screen when you’re going to an unchartered world. I’ll see what I can do."
Telgar seems to be listening very carefully to Ryseak's every word. He pauses, and once again glances over at Lyrium, lightly smiling. He is interrupted by Kah'Liss's nervous twitching fingers. Almost impatiently,
Telgar starts tapping his fingers lightly on the table. He seems to nod for some unknown reason, and then after listening to Kah'Liss finally giving his requests, Telgar simply looks up and says, "I think what we have, combined
with my partner's suggestions and Zhirrzh’s requests for screens, will be more than enough." Slowly, Telgar folds his arms and leans back into his chair, waiting for further comments. His eyes look around at the group in front of him, going from one to the next and then back again; each time lingering just a slight bit longer on Lyrium. He starts to tap his fingers on the table again. Kah'Liss notices Telgar and just shakes his head...

Referee's Note:
Ryseak is awaiting an answer from Zhirrzh about which type screen he would be interested in, but anyone can chime in with their own suggestions. Any further questions on Explorer's Rights should be asked as well.

To answer Brenon's question on how this dialogue should work, it will be faster to include all of your questions in one email. I'll split them up throughout the conversation. That will cut down on the number of emails that we send out.
